Abhijit Paul is a sculptor from IKSVV, khairagarh and designer from the National Institute of Design, NID, with a passion for materials, music and macro system thinking. Currently he is based in Ahmedabad and is busy with freelance consultancy project work, part time teaching in a design institute and coming up with a range of eco friendly toys and accessories for his own company ‘Khidki”. He has worked with a range of materials including terracotta, plaster, bamboo, wood , metals, felt, textile , plastic etc. and loves manipulating and combining them in innovative ways.
He has won a number of awards at Manav sanket, Ujjain and All India art exhibition, Nagpur and scholarships at national level from H.R.D., Govt of India.(Ministry of Culture) for sculpture and Ford foundation scholarship for his design project on “Designing eco-friendly toys using sustainable materials and resources” at NID, India. His works have been exhibited in 16th and 17th all India art exhibition, Nagpur, Banaras, Ujjain, Bangalore, Jehangir Art Gallery – Mumbai & ShuruArt - Ahmedabad. He likes to combine his rich experience as a sculptor with design parameters to come up with innovative value added designs.
Abhijit believes in thinking ‘macro’ and doing ‘micro’ detailing. His interest in craft sector has motivated him to start a network of collaborating agencies to design modern artifacts using craft sensibilities. His belief that design is not only about lifestyle but about improving lives of people has motivated him to take up people-centric projects and challenging conditions.
In his spare time, he likes to spend time playing with children and watching the moon floating in the night sky.
